Our AdventureX

It’s a few weeks ago now but we thought we’d take a look back at our AdventureX experience for this week’s Röki blog!

For those that don’t know AdventureX is a specialist game event focusing on adventure games of all flavours. It’s a weekend long event and has talks from notable developers and experts through the weekend and an expo where twenty or so hand-picked adventure games are available to play.

This year, we were fortunate enough to be selected to demo Röki at the show.

This was the first time we’d demoed the game at a major event so we were a little (very) nervous and had been working hard to make sure we were prepared to unleash our monstrous baby on the adventure gaming public.

To be honest, it was an amazing weekend, it simply couldn’t have gone any better. The demo kit was always in demand with non-stop run throughs and we had around 60 play-throughs of our 15 minute demo over the two day event.

The feedback as well was heart-warming to hear. We put a lot of ourselves and blood, sweat and tears into our game, so it was really rewarding to hear people (some very respected adventure game royalty) say very nice things about it, and especially gratifying to see all the effort building up to the event pay off.

We’d added/improved a fair number of aspects of the game in the run up to the event. Here’s a quick list:-

  • Added Voice emotes to Tove and Lars

  • Added pad rumble and key action events

  • Improved camera motion

  • Increased background emotion

  • New mixed-case font with better readability and impact of italic/bold

  • Sled-ride sequence to end the demo with a bang

We didn’t get a chance to catch many of the talks (I saw one and I think Danny caught another) but we’ll be catching up with them online over the coming weeks as it looked like there was an amazing line-up.

Big thanks to everyone who stopped by to make it an awesome weekend for us. HUGS! You can read some of the press we received from the event below:-

Other Exhibitors

One of the great things about the event was the chance to meet some of the other developers and check out there games. I had some really great chats (both at the event and at the pub afterwards) about development and character animation. Everyone was super friendly and there was a real nurturing vibe floating around. Here are some of the other awesome game that were on show, along with their Twitter handles, give them a look!

Until next time,

Alex & Team Röki
